Came across this and thought I'd share. Interested to know what everyone thinks about it?

It might be okay for a local business that only operates within NYC and has no plans to expand, but otherwise it's useless.

Bloomberg went on about how it will assist the tech industry in New York, but any tech company will have a global outlook, or at the very least national, so why would they limit themselves to dot nyc?

At least it will look more like a 'normal' domain name, unlike .paris and .london etc.

Ahem. What was I saying about .vic... writing is on the wall.

I agree, they're definitely coming.

The question is if their release strengthen .com/.com.au?

I personally think some will stick, but they will probably be the closed extensions snapped up by the players big enough to set the trends like Google, Amazon etc.

For geo's I'm not sure, but for pure open registration generics I just think of the existing gTLDs that have been around for ages. Has anyone ever gone to a .museum, .jobs or .travel site? Even once?

Something to discuss over coffee tomorrow morning ;)

I think that some of the participating companies will throw big advertising budgets at their new extensions, tvs.sony printers.cannon will be seen and heard in many places i suspect

Everything is evolving around us. The new GTLDs will defintly set the pace.

People saying they won't take off is like saying the fax machine won't take off in 1970.
