NFC Tags

NFC was something we talked about at the Sydney meetup and I noticed there were about 6 different devices that support NFC.

I have a bunch of tags, if anyone wants one to play with PM me. I'll post more about them when I get a chance to play with them some more.

If anyone comes across any NFC uses in the wild please let me know or post here.

NFC (near field communication)

this is a good link for more info:

but in it it says " for them to work.... generally you need to be within a couple of centimetres (an inch). "

Yes, you usually tap your phone on the tag. The tags I have are in the form of stickers and cards.

The LinkedIn card is the size of a business card.

I love NFC, it has so much potential, from contactless payments to data and file sharing and marketing. Here's a pic from my local shopping centre. This is on the border of an advertising board/poster.

Tapping on it launches the phone's browser which goes to a page at vserver.com.au branded as "Amplify by eye" and a message saying "Hello. Thanks for connecting with Amplify by EYE - a new way to talk with the brands you like. Sorry there are currently no offers available, but in the future if you see an ad offering more info you can TAP, SCAN or TEXT the EYE unit to receive it."

Agreed Tim, you reckon they'd be encouraging people to spread the word eh.

i can see the advert at 1 end of a shopping centre and making the shopper walk to the other end for the discount.

or as you enter the shopping centre you tap it and it gives you all of todays deals, places like chadstone, chatswood chase, indooroopilly ,
sunshine plaza, pacific fair, wollongong central, harbour town etcccccc
( thats all the cities i know)
