Hey all,

I saw this in my news feed today,

Microsoft has been buying up "surface" domain names, and redirecting it to their main site.

A user on redit spotted that surfacephone.com was owned by microsoft.

Interesting article http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/27/10845868/microsoft-surface-phone-domain

What's people's opinions on grabbing names that big business want?

Could it get you in hot water, Or is it just first come first served?

Could you make some money on it?

Things like picking up any surface.* names that are left!

Thoughts?

The chance of anyone registering these names now and actually getting a sale is extremely remote. Surfacephone.com went 9 years ago, before Microsoft even came up with "Surface". The person owning it would have got a sale purely by dumb luck. For stuff still available Microsoft is unlikely to have much interest aside from sending some boilerplate legal letter.
