I have a couple of spare hours in Melbourne this afternoon and Tuesday morning if anyone's free for a coffee or beer.

    Staying in the CBD.

Flew home early yesterday feeling like crap. Man that weather in Melbourne is bloody terrible at the moment!

I was down there to attend a number plate auction. It was the 21st plate issued in Victoria and sold for $530,000.

Wow, I had no idea they could fetch that kind of price...

    Just two numbers - 21.
They were issued in order starting with number 1. :)

BTW, all the value is in the rights to the number, not the physical plate.

Yep, it's a crazy world that of heritage number plates. Huge money involved when you get down to these low numbers.

    Wow, $530k!

Years ago I worked for a company that had a set of very low 2-digit plates (may have been 11), and they always let the current CEO use them. When one guy retired he managed to take them with him, much to the annoyance of the incoming boss. This would have been the mid 80s, I wonder what the family did with them, and if they ever realised they were sitting on a gold mine.

If it was 11 that plate is owned by the Costa family, although I'm not sure if they owned it back in the 80s.

Here it is on its current home - a Rolls Royce Wraith. :D
