Sounds like a beat up, shows the agent as Hocking Stuart, I suspect this is a self promotion attempt by the owners (who owns a social media promotion co).

Getting $135,000 above reserve is hardly amazing either (just price it low to achieve that or claim a lower reserve after the fact). Did the bidders actually find it through social media? I doubt it because most buyers are looking in specific areas and would always be looking on the major property websites.

Blog shows minimal interaction and you can see from the inspection numbers it is nothing out of the ordinary, 21 visors through in the first Saturday, 7 on the Thursday, those numbers are typical in a location like that, not amazing.

They just had a twitter account with the home, I have seen 100s of places doing that for the last 5 years where they set up the home address as a website/twitter account...

It may well be a beat up; and I'm sure there are plenty of others who have done it or are doing it.

But the fact is, they made it into the national press, and I reckon this story alone will generate more people into using the internet to sell their homes or whatever.

I think 100% of people use the internet to sell their houses now. I think also are using twitter (and facebook) as James suggests, more are registering domains specifically for each property (some agents doing it for every single property).

It is a poor news story in my view because it gives people a false view of what happened, like the guy whose house was supposedly sold for $1000 a couple of weeks ago.

I know this story is very poor, people read it thinking the guy only used Twitter as the medium to sell the property yet on the video they said - blog, Facebook, twitter and then offsite auction also used (to see the property)

It is on all the property websites and I would think that is what really sold it (like most other property sales).
