Liberal Party registers domain name ‘AbbottLies.com.au’

There's a bit of discussion in the news about the defensive registration of AbbottLies.com.au:

The Liberal Party has registered abbottlies.com.au as a website to prevent critics launching a site under the same domain name.

The address ‘Abbott lies’ is redirected to an image of Joe Hockey grinning behind a banner that encourages people to learn more about the 2014 budget, with the web traffic diverted to www.liberal.org.au.

The unusual political strategy comes after Tony Abbott has been stung by accusations of broken promises during his time as Prime Minister.

I did read about this in this mornings newspaper, interestingly there was accidental mention of abbottlies. com instead of the .au

I did a whois check this morning, finding it to still be available, but at the time of posting this, been taken..
