Interesting read and some good comments.

There are ways to stop cannibalisation of existing sales. Probably just drumming up some PR

I wonder if he knows he is bidding on the keyword 'kogan' in Google

Interesting read, thanks for sharing.

I make most of my money online from affiliate commissions as a publisher. I think Kogan is way off the mark and many businesses have done very well from the sales coming from sites like mine. Many other companies have made the model work, which suggests to me that they didn't manage their program properly.

Garbage in, garbage out. You have to effectively screen publishers and set sensible parameters to get effective results.

I think the key problem here is that:

1. Kogan did not set the ground rules with the promotion - i.e not bidding on brand/ no targeting brand.
2. No use of coupons pushing, as said should have wiped out the coupon box.

I do a bit of affiliate marketing with Max Bounty, they are a good network, I have used the likes of EWA in the past they are not the best and look what happened to them they are now shut down.

I still think affiliate marketing has a place.
