I think he just won the auction rather than getting community status?

I think the extension will suffer from all the same problems as other tlds. Most bands would be easily able to acquire their .com.

I don't think there is anything out about what was paid. I suspect he had financial backing from other co's given the number of other bidders he would have been bidding against.
