I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how many websites there are in Australia ?

Hey Spacey, there's a thread on here which lists the number of registered .au domains but not actual websites... http://www.dntrade.com.au/cctld-domain-name-lists-anyone-t3146.html

So most of the ccTLD's don't allow access to their zone files. Well here's the next best thing:

http://viewdns.info/data/

Large lists of valid/registered domains from various ccTLD's including .au. The .au list mentions that it contains:

• 941,606 .com.au domains
• 104,633 .net.au domains

Could be useful in identifying potential buyers for domains in your portfolios?

Thanks Ash , i think fair to say only 15% or so of registered names are actually sites

Thanks, the reason i was asking was because an alexa ranking made mention of a local ranking which got me to wondering, if i am reading the link properly about half a million ?

I quite often click on the www option when doing a name search and it seems eight out of ten times there is no website for the registered name (maybe a parked name)
