    • buy .com.au or .com
    • If you like a name which is already taken contact the person and offer to buy it with your best offer https://www.ausregistry.com.au/whois/
    • Aftermarket websites such as Sedo, Netfleet and others have lots of good names for sale
    • Use companies such as SynergyWholesale for lower priced .com.au. Check all domain selling companies offer FREE url forwarding, FREE DNS etc
    • Before you develop the name park your name with companies such as www.bodis.com or others. Monetise the name and choose the contact form for sale feature.
    • Spend more on higher quantity names rather than less quality names in higher quantity.
    • Most decent .com.au names will start at $1000 and up. Expect to pay $xx,000 for great names and $xxx,000 for the best if they are for sale at all. Names like Realestate.com.au News.com.au Carsales.com.au CarsGuide.com.au etc are worth far more still and will never come up for sale. Their whole business is built around their .com.au.
    • Look at the past sales figures on this forum at the top over the year to give you an idea but many sales are not reported especially the higher one's.
    • Join auDA as a member. https://www.auda.org.au/about-auda/membership
    • Come to the auDA AGM and meet some people.
    • Some people on the forum have been domaining for 15 years or more. They are worth listening to.. in some cases they have spent a lot, lost a lot ( buying bad domains or bad extensions) or made a lot, sitting on a lot ( potential goldmine). Some will help.
    • read these when you get time www.domainer.com.au www.dnjournal.com
    • There are still millions of good .com.au names available to register look at 1 or 2 word variations and find someone you can trust to bounce them off if worth it or not.

Heyo! Thanks for the welcome. Have been researching the whole .live .social .club scene but reckon I have read enough to know that it is the .com where I want to live. Already had a portfolio of 3000 domains offered to me and I was only writing to say "Hi". Hopefully I can glean the information I need to get started.

Day 1. Build a website and find a host!

Thanks @topflight - consider myself embryonic at this stage. Thanks for the advice. I'm literally looking for Day 1 advice and trying to find a mentor locally to at least guide me in my first days/weeks/months.

    3000 ! alarm bells ring !!!
i have a saying "time brings options" and right now i'm not rushing out to buy domains even though i do know all the why's and why nots, there are a lot of things to consider and RESEARCH before buying a domain.
    you could start here: http://www.domainer.com.au/the-elephant-in-the-room/

short story is i came into this and went straight up to @ 400+ domains, i'm now down to @ 150 and like it like that, given i've only sold 4 domains that means i made a shit load of mistakes ! my ideal doal is to have @ 10 names ( note i am a developer not a domainer )
and i don't think my "not renew" policy is stopping anytime soon.

Thanks everyone. I'm told I need an ABN and a website to park (and access GSC) . Can any one confirm? I have found plenty of information of where to buy and how to appraise, etc. but nothing at this first stage. Believe me, it sounds as dumb in my mind as it does as I type. Forgive me. Hopefully I'll bring some value in the months to come.

You need an ABN to register .com.au domains but not for .com

You don't need a website, as you can point the nameservers for your domains to a parking company, such as Bodis.com, that will display related advertising links and enable you to list it for sale. This is free to set up.

G'day & welcome.. Adelaide's a nice place, I visit the place regularly. Aparently many are heading over the border this week to try and take a premiership cup away from VIC!
