Having issues with .com.au whois or registration? Here's why

I thought something was awry when I tried running some whois searches.

Maybe everyone else knew about this, but it was news to me:

If you're suddenly finding lots of amazing domains are available - they're not. It's just that the availability backend is not working properly. Whois functionality is also limited or unavailable for today.

Thought others might like to know what's going on.
