GST on overseas purchases

It will be interesting how the government tries to implement this. How can it be policed? It is a political decision with little merit.

I think the government would only hope to collect this off very large suppliers, e.g. if it was going through a large 3rd party maybe they'd be able to collect.

Everything will just come through as "Gift" or have very low value declared on it. Most of the time my suppliers automatically write Gift and declare as sample or $1 value so it's a bit of smoke and mirrors for anything that doesn't look remotely valuable.
