Hi All,

There is a quite bit of information starting to come out about a Vietnamese Fruit called Gac Fruit. It is extremely high in antioxidents etc, etc, etc (e.g.70 x more Lycopene than Tomatoes).

So I thought why not see if the domain names were available now if/when the info hits Aussie and it becomes a Health Food Shop staple. I suppose it is similar to the Acacia Berry when it first hit, now it's a popular term and product.

So I hand reg'd:

gacfruit.com.au
gacfruitjuice.com
gacfruitjuice.com.au

Any thoughts on not only the names but also the idea of trying to get in before it becomes popular?

Tell me now Snoopy what I have done worng..lmao. Just jokes I always value your opinion :)

It's a sensible and legitimate strategy. Even if only a small % pay off, you can still be way ahead using this strategy.

Sounds awful though - 'gac fruit'

BTW checked Google insights and seems like it's been around a while but has been increased interest recently so hopefully you have timed it right!

gac fruit

Hopefully something comes of it, if not it is not a great loss. First time I have ever been able to get in before the hopeful increase in awareness. Appreciate all advice !

Terms have no real popularity. The terms could be 10 times as popular and the names still wouldn't really be viable.

Legitimate, yes. Sensible, no.

Legitimate, yes. Sensible, no.

Making silly comments like this just for the sake of being argumentative/negative does you no favours.

Whilst I wouldn't dream of registering domains solely for the purpose of resale, I have over the years made a considerable return through names that fit this 'potentially up and coming' category. It's a sensible strategy.

I think very few people have made a profit from the strategy, in this case the terms have barely any popularity so it would need to see enormous growth before the names would really make sense for speculation. It is a bad bet in my view.

The problem really is that it always get argued as "well it is only three names", "a small bet" etc but the $50 investment soon multiples over the years with renewals and people generally register lots of different "future potential" names, so it soon adds up and becomes a money pit in my view.

You have got it right! It's well worth a shot IMHO.

As snoopy says though the $20s can start to add up so with this example it might have been better to just grab the main one gacfruit.com.au to better your odds of getting a ROI through this strategy

Don't know why people do it, they register the "best one" then register weaker names as well.

It is a sign of a poorly thought out strategy in my view as it is based on pulling out the credit card not careful thought on each name. It is a bit like putting $50 on at the casino then dropping another hundred on the floor. Whatever odds you had they just got a lot worse.
