i've posted about this type of thing before but this particular instance hasn't happened to me before.
i'm just detailing this for others new to freelancing.... thats all.
one of my BEST freelancers ( @ 16 jobs so far ) who i was almost daily in contact with has just gone missing ! , i have a BIG project on with him and its now 3 weeks without contact, i am really concerned for his well being as he is such a great guy + of course i need the work completed !!!
just so you get the story, last contact was " yes tim i will upload those changes tonight" , well he did upload and now........... no answer , i owe him $300USD for the work so you would think he would want it !!!!!
normally when a freelancer goes missing its when they have YOUR money !!!
    --------------------
his skype comes online every day, i ask " r u there" everyday, but nothing happens, i sent emails, i have even said " do you need money" ? and still no answer.
    --------------------
site is backed up and downloaded and works fine.
    ------------
he also knew i had other jobs ready for him to do, i've now had to give them to my other freelancers, so the guy has lost money. he's in india and a bloody good programmer.
    ----------------
so the moral of the story is, backup everything they do daily, always have other freelancers to take the project on board, only pay on milestones. maybe seems cruel but its a reality, i'm sure if i died tomorrow my clients would ask " is my domain still registered" ?
    --------
but i really had an emotional bank account with this guy , we were a team, i do hope he is ok but i just do not know how else i can contact him.

Different social issues in some of the third world countries .......anything could have happened, the hint is that outstanding money is not being requested suggests something serious has happened, perhaps a secondary local contact/friend is a handy addition when doing this kind of business .......a Back Up Contact

Perhaps send that link to the girls in Pakistan who can't even look sideways in fear of being burnt alive, there is no denying that there some different social situations in some third world countries, it's just the way it is. The comment had nothing to do with wealth.

still no reply ! but spacey's suggestion that having a secondary contact is a BLOODY GOOD ONE, thanks spacey, so obvious but didn't think of it before.
this si the 2nd one i have lost, BOTH uncompleted jobs ( which i just complete myself or hire another ) and but this one i do owe money to for work that has been completed which is really weird and there was moreeeeeeeeeeee work to come which i have now had to find others to do so i would say he's missed/lost about $1200 USD so far and thats a lot of money in india i'm guessing?

We had a freelancer in Nepal heavily affected by the earthquakes - he went missing.
