From a system perspective it went great. I think some of the domains went cheaper than we would have liked, but this is indicative of the maturity of the market.

Over time secondary market traction will grow, especially as business come to realize that they can actually get that 'fantastic name' they always wanted.

Probably preaching to the converted on this forum, but if you build it... they will come :)

Here is a some industry news that AusRegistry distributed in their recent newsletter.

Good domain names ‘can boost SEO’
Businesses could enhance their online marketing campaigns by choosing the right domain names for their websites, according to one expert.

Writing in a column for Marketing Week, Sedo business development director Nora Nanayakkara suggests that opting for domains that are more focused on generic keywords than brand names could be good for search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay-per-click purposes.

"Studies have shown that keyword domains related to the search term appear higher in natural search listings and receive a higher quality rank when running paid search campaigns," she explains.

She cites the cases of Calvin Klein's Underwear.com domain and Johnson & Johnson's Baby.com website as good examples of companies using generic domain names for online marketing purposes.

Those considering setting up a blog should seriously think about buying a domain name rather than relying on the address provided by free blogging sites, according to a recent Search Engine Guide article by Stoney deGeyter of Pole Position Marketing.

He advised bloggers to opt for domain names that use keywords where possible, as well as for those that are relatively short and memorable.

As I've said before we should all mount a concerted PR campaign to educate the mainstream.

Imagine what a warchest we could build if every registrar, drop catcher, aftermarket, registrar and even domainer pooled resources.

That is why my blog is decisions.net.au and my new one is thoughts.net.au

I had a few bids at todays auction. Should have been a lot more promotion.

every registrar, drop catcher, aftermarket, registrar and even domainer pooled resources.
Maybe it is time there was an Australian Internet Industry Association.

Every other major service oriented business niche has one. Our niche surely has enough potential members to support such a group.

Nett have done a few things here and there. However it's very far from the mainstream media.

Djuqa's idea is good - an association of some sort. It's been talked about before but really needs someone to enthusiastically drive it. Plus significant financial input from all members.

Internet Industry Association.
http://www.iia.net.au/
but only really represents ISP's, we need something for all things related to domains
Parking providers
Web Developers
Script Programmers
Hosting Companies
After Market Auctions
Registrars
Resellers
Marketers & Domainers
Domain Users (i.e Businesses that have a website)
SEO "Experts"
Media Groups ( i.e NETT)
Collectively we have several thousand potential members
Foundation Member fees would provide the startup capital

What about the Australian Web Industry Assoication

The Australian Web Industry Association (AWIA) was formed in 2004 (as Port 80 Inc, originally established as a social network for web professionals in 2002). It is a not-for-profit association which aims to:

* Further the advancement of the web industry within Australia.
* Educate the general public about the role of professionals in the web industry.
* Foster greater ties with like-minded organisations

Mainly caters for "UpMarket" web developers, 50k For customised Wordpress site ,(their own description, not mine, I wouldn't join them if you paid me & apparently very few others have joined with only 145 active members on their Forum)
We need an association with a wide spectrum of users and expertise.

Footnote to PAZ or SOJ maybe these posts need to be shifted to a new thread about this Assoc. discussions.
