Hey guys, does anyone have any experience with ecommerce platforms?

Im trying to decide on what to use but there's a few to choose from

shopify.com
bigcommerece.com
wordpress

I dont mind paying a monthly fee for the best of the best

If anyone has any experiences with any of these platforms or others I havnt mentioned it would be great to hear what you have to say!

Cheers

It really depends on what your selling, what your budget is, how you process orders (eg. drop shipping vs standard), and lots more. Maybe if you describe what you're selling, what your budget is, you'll get better suggestions.

Hey Joel, all good questions:

No budget
Standard order process (purchase stock and manually send out orders)
Selling niche computer hardware
Selling less than 100 products

If you want easy to setup and maintain, then BigCommerce or Shopify.

OpenCart is another option if you want self-hosted. It's free and has a good community with plenty of addons.

Would be careful about any "add on" ecommerce product (like a wordpress addon). It is probably the wrong way to go about it the site is mainly a store.

If you have no budget then open source ecommerce software might be the best bet, eg magento, zen-cart. (will be a bit of work involved to get it running how you want). don't have any experience with the ones you have listed though personally would not pay a monthly fee for a shopping cart.

its WP based

i use to use oscommerce but i think its gone off the rails, i was speaking to a good friend and programmer yesterday and he was looking a magento and thought it was rubbish ( i have no opinion ) , he by the way has moved away from bigcommerce.

i've been using getshopped for WP and not a big fan, at the sydney meeting Woocommerce and opencart were highly reccommended to me and i'll probably test them this week, not really an answer for you as i am in the same boat right now.
