Looks like Ned is setting up a forum at domainer.com.au http://www.domainer.com.au/register/

    Bit exy though...

"Domainer - $198 - 1 Year. The annual Domainer membership package gives you full access to the forums, domaining tools and resources. The membership price is inclusive of 10% Goods and Services Tax ($18)."

Maybe that's why he doesn't post here anymore?;)

Well didn't Ned use to own this forum a while back, I thought he purchased it from Soj back in the day.

I read his articles but wouldn't pay $198 to join his forum. Not really sure what he can contribute when he knows he is competing against DNTrade's forum.

I'd hazard a guess that it's probably going to be more about the "resources" than a forum. Have to wait and find out I guess

Good luck to Ned with that. People would not pay 5 cents.

Even at the discounted price of "free" it is very hard going to get people to sign up and post on a domain forum, basically it is a full time job to get it started.

Depends what he shares tho, if he shares contacts which you can make domain sales or something to could be cheap as I know that is where Ned has a lot of skill.

The forums were only recently integrated from our dev environment. It's still very early days, so the pricing isn't set in stone, and the forums are part of a broader approach. We haven't yet signed up members or promoted this feature at all.

You're welcome to flick me a PM with your thoughts, good, bad or otherwise.

I won't put words in Ned's mouth, but will say that his departure from DNT had absolutely nothing to do with a forums area on domainer.com.au. I think that's clear from his departing post on DNT.

Thanks for your shit stirring post Andrew. I expect that from a whinging Pom. ;)

I don't post here anymore for reasons I stated previously. But I will make an exception today to clarify the situation.

Demonoid and I have the next stage of Domainer.com.au on the drawing boards; and part of this will be sharing resources with a lot of new people. Hence the forum development work that Demonoid has been working on. (I wasn't aware that it was up and running yet, or that there were figures quoted etc).

We're not here to compete with DNTrade - we're a different type of resource. You'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, we will keep posting relevant content on a regular basis.

And finally I agree with Snoopy in this instance. Forums on their own are really hard work - and I also would be reluctant to pay anything to join one. Unless of course it offered me demonstrable bang for my buck! ;)

Well you've had a 'teaser' ...but I've switched the forums sections/links etc to admin access for now.

As has been alluded to, there's more to it than 'just forums'

They are getting traffic now so they are thinking how to monetise the site. Adsense advertising was their first option but they got rid of that idea fairly quickly. A forum would have been their next idea but I doubt it will gain traction. Not sure how else they will get paid to run that site but should be interesting to see what they do.

i get where they are heading, there's coke, diet coke, zero coke and now coke lifestyle ! there are many ways to do a forum
pepsi, diet pepsi, pepsi max, and now pepsi TRUE !

i think to align domainer with DNT is incorrect, each serves a purpose, and just wait for the.......... " timcronicals.com.au" , it promises absolute opinions, no feedback and HEAPS of typos LOL

I try to avoid engaging in conversations based on 'rumours' or 'speculation', but you're way off the mark on this.

Adsense was setup on the initial WordPress installation some time ago, it was included more as a 'default setup' than anything else, if you've read previous posts about domainer.com.au you may recall Ned's comments on this. It was just left in place until recently, when some redesigning was done and we wanted more realestate in the sidebar.

Monetisation has been an 'afterthought', not a driving force. I don't think anyone would dispute that both Ned and I have been actively engaged in this industry. First and foremost we've provided info, news and advocated for the interests of domainers.

Don't know how I am way off the mark? There are different ways to monetise a site, eg Adsense, Paid Forum etc.
You started with Adsense, it was then abandoned. Now you have a forum which costs $198 to join. I am just stating what you have done, this is not a speculation or rumor. it's the facts.

I was just saying I am looking forward to see what you guys come up with to monetise the site. It might not be your driving motivation but at some stage you will start thinking about it when you get decent traffic. It's just a natural progression.

I love that there's a typo in your pretend website - it's very on brand and aligns nicely with your brand promise of heaps of typos :D

I felt it was necessary to clarify, as your post did make assumptions about our thinking/planning/timing on monetisation.

There's lots of 'stuff in the pipeline' and we welcome feedback on current and future features. I'm always happy for a chat by PM here, email or phone.

If it had value and could make me money or compliment my current services i would pay...but not a huge amount at first.

I think http://mysteriousuniverse.org/ has a very good subscription model which they have turned into a full time job.

Basically they have a weekly podcast. If you subscribe @ $10 per month you get an extended version of the main podcast and access to a second podcast during the week.
