I've been looking into an SSL issue over the past few days and stumbled across an article on domain extensions that aren't allowed to be used as custom domains on Medium, due to not being supported by Comodo (their SSL partner):
The full article can be found here:

It reminded me of a situation someone was telling me about a new gTLD that also go rejected from a listing somewhere because the domains didn't resolve using standard whois. Difference issue, but something to be careful of if you're getting creative.
I have some weird extensions, but luckily none of the above...
- Afghanistan — AF
- Belarus — BY
- Côte d’Ivoire — CI
- Cuba — CU
- Eritrea — ER
- Guinea — GN
- Iran — IR
- Iraq — IQ
- Lebanon — LB
- Liberia — LR
- Myanmar — MM
- North Korea — KP
- Pakistan — PK
- Rwanda — RW
- Sierra Leone — SL
- Syria — SY
- Sudan — SD
- South Sudan — SS
- Zimbabwe — ZW
