Facebook just opened https://www.facebook.com/about/subscriptions

Anyone can subscribe to you and you can subscribe to anyone without friending them. Looks like some competition to twitter. This feature is already available on Google+ so another reason they probably rolled it out. Interesting times ahead

I'm confused about this and personally I think this feature is a little unnecessary. If your profile is private then how can one see your posts? Or if the privacy settings are not as strict then they can see your posts?
