I've been working on this site as a pet project (probably 6 months). I'm doing it for the enjoyment of web development more than anything. Has taught me a lot in regards to javascript and php. So, what do people think?

    CoverArtists.net

The basic idea of the site is that it collates songs that youtube cover artists have uploaded to their youtube channels (as well as their original songs) so that it is easy to discover new covers as well as new (original) songs. For example you could visit the James Allan page and browse his covers as well as discover his new songs. Through this you'll discover other cover artists (as they will feature in his cover songs).

If you want to see the voting functionality etc, feel free to use the testAccount:

Some feedback I'd love to here:

    - Honest thoughts on the site (looks, features etc)
    - Feature suggestions (this is a big one as it gives me more tasks to complete)
    - Any and all suggestions, praises and of course criticisms :)

Also, I've added a lot of artists and songs, but in saying that a lot of the artists have only had one song added so far.

    Thanks :)

you did ask for comments !

this is what i saw on IE9, it was slightly better on firefox but i do feel you still need to program your css for both.

    http://screencast.com/t/EseRdOxuV7X

nice concept but i would think it would have a HIGH bounce rate as it has nothing to engage me on the homepage. i kinda know what you are heading for as i am doing it myself right now.

so i'm going to PM .

Yah, I've been thinking about that a bit, not only with the home pages but the search pages too. Any suggestions for what you would see as being on those pages. FindTim has suggested some images/banners etc, which I definitely agree with so I'll work on that a bit in terms of idea. And I'll also work on the styling issues in different browsers (haven't touched that in quite a while).

Just thought of an idea for the home page:

    - Idea 1
    - Idea 2

Am thinking that every 5 seconds an image changes. (Therefore an image is up for a total of 10 seconds in the case of the 3 image one and 25 seconds in the case of the 6 image one). (Time will be fiddled with to determine what works best).

Positioning etc can be ignored (though ideas are welcome).

If I found the site organically it would be pretty hard to guess what the site is about. Idea2 looks better but really it's just a bunch of pictures. Think about the home content now. I would imagine a site like this should be link heavy in every category to make the experience easier.

I think the concept is OK. But it has a long way to go. @What is the point of searching cover artists on the homepage? I don't know their names. Maybe I am missing something?

I searched ACDC and found no related bands. So maybe on sign up, add "sounds like" etc.

Have a look at www.therapcella.com which was re-launched recently. He has a similar concept focusing on Hip Hop niche. Maybe ask him for some advice.

yes i think you are missing something ( in your words) i think the site is trying to create a structure that it can then build on and grow, it is obviously not there yet.

as for " the rap cella " i think its a load of crap spam keyword stuffing homepage and no doubt soon to die by googles sharp knife even if it actually still exists on a search engine presently. hmmmm, did i over do that?

Have completed the home page image randomiser thingo. Not sure if I'm going to bother with ensuring that the images can't be the same (currently can as they are picked via a random number).

Honestly helloworld, I'm clueless with navigating that site. It's definitely not the style of site I'm aiming for. I do agree that the searching is bit a confusing. I'm going to work on that + the ability to search for the original artist as opposed to just the cover artists (aka you can currently search for Joe Blo who did a cover of an Adele song but not Adele herself).

SMH Tim. You missed the point.

Maybe I should have posted links to the inner pages.

    http://therapcella.com/searchVideos.aspx for instance is great.

I'm talking about the database structure...I don't put a tag cloud on any of my sites and I did offer some advice, but he wasn't interested and it's not my point.

yes that changes my impression greatly, although the fact i "bounced" off the site because of its home page is important for the end user.

the link you just posted is far more impressive and WOULD make me go deeper into the site.
