Hi,

Many on this forum have advised that a good domain needs to be a domain which somebody could use as a business name.
Below are the .com.au domains I currently own, I personally feel that each of these and a combination of them could be great business names for a range of different sectors.

Can i ask that you have a look at tell which one you feel is the most valuable domain, and which in your opinion is the worst.

In terms of the best, maybe selfservicekiosks.com.au? I chose this one as it's an exact match for an actual product. Still not one that I'd pay reg fee for though...

As for the worst, I think it would be a dead-heat amongst most of the rest.

I think the issue with most of the domains you've posted is that a potential buyer has many other alternatives that they could hand register themselves. I'm yet to see anything that a potential buyer would think "I need that domain and there are no other suitable options".

Thanks Shane, so i guess your saying the domains are too generic to be unique enough to be of value.

I wouldn't say that. Broadly speaking, the more generic the better. The most generic domains are the ones which have the most value, but it's more about the commerciality of the term.

Say you had walls.com and loans.com. Both are super generic, but if you put a value on them, loans.com would be worth infinitely more.

Look at accessiblecruising.com.au as an example. A Google search shows that it's quite a common term, and you'd have to say it's a commercial term. Both of those are great things.

But would anyone be willing to build a business (or just a website) around accessible cruising? And more importantly, are they going to pay you good money to get that specific domain?

So maybe think more about the commerciality of the term rather than how generic (or unique) it is.

The key element missing from your analysis seems to be demand. The best way to gauge demand is to use the Google Adwords keyword tool. It's probably the first tool a domainer uses to figure out value.

Im not a fan of these domains - you should read the auDA Reserved List Policy. You cant use terms like 'university' without the appropriate consents. Remember our previous posts, it is best to do more research and watch the .au expired domain auctions.

Hi CMDL,
Thanks for the feedback and advice on the auDA. We have previously reviewed this and felt that the way we intend to use traveluniversity.com.au sits outside of their restrictions due to the fact we have an RTO accredited trainer in our company as well as partnerships with RTO in the travel industry. I'll watch the expired domain auctions as advised, but again these domains have been purchased over the past 2 years and well before i entered this forum. Cheers, Mick
