Does anyone know much about .co.za domain registration?

I tried to register one but they asked for a South African ID number.

Another didnt ask for it but said 48 hours to register. Seemed a little dodgy to me.

Just go direct through Co.Za for this, I used HostCow just once and absolutely regretted it. The owner was completely incompetent and arrogant just to ice the experience.

Co.Za is a bit behind the times, so what you do is go through their registration process. To do any updates they have a "generator," you basically fill out with mydomain.co.za then hit "submit." It creates a text file, which you then type in all the relevant lines and then email that through to .co.za. After a short time (a few hours) you will get an automated response back, to which you reply to via email again removing the word "Yes" or "No" from an email. It is then actioned upon.

Here's an example, i've removed some of the info / changed it (such as the magic cookie).

Code:
MAGIC C00KIE:45644:483sdafeaIA:Accept Deny:mydomain.co.za:
                                    /\
                                   /||\
                                    ||
                          Delete the word 'Accept'
                          or the word 'Deny' ONLY!
                        DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE
                              ON THIS LINE!!!

The domain "mydomain.co.za" is in the pending queue for a Update.
This was requested by "Joel@mydomain.co.za". The original request was posted
at Fri, 28 Jan 2011 23:33:59 +1100 and queued in pending at Fri Jan 28 14:34:42 SAST 2011.

To allow this to proceed - auto-reply to this e-mail quoting the magic
cookie line at the top of the message, ...after removing either the
word "Deny" or "Accept" - according to how you want to vote for
the Change.
(Auto-Reply means "reply to sender" - which is "ticketman@co.za".)

How it works, The application will wait for 24 hours. After this time,
if there is at least one Accept and no Deny's, the request will proceed.
Anything else will stop the request, eg one Deny - or no Accepts..

Wow! That all seems rather complicated to me.

As I said, I used Hetzner.co.za - they are affiliated with Hetzner Online AG in Germany. They also have about 30% of the hosting market in South Africa. I found them to be very professional. Just my opinion though.

Creating an account (or profile) and registering a domain was relatively easy, and their support was excellent (tickets answered same day or you can phone).
