    That report is really worth reading!

    "The incoming auDA CEO has provided the following commentary and response to the Recommendations.

    8.  auDA staff should continue work to expand and broaden the membership base.

    •  Not agreed – auDA's membership classes and qualifications are specified in Clauses 9.3, 9.4 and 9.5. Membership classes have not been reviewed to assess contemporary applicability since 2006. The focus should be for auDA to consider its wider membership requirements as its further assesses its longer term strategic vision. "

    I am not sure why the new auDA CEO has not Not agreed with this recommendation?

    auDA has only 200 members and 3 million paying registrants! Surely this is ill advised to not agree with review?

    Why does auDA and some on the board still refuse to innovate and open up membership to all 3 million domain name registrants more easily? These 3 million Registrants are paying auDA and they deserve Free membership and much better membership services.

    Perhap's auDA and the board should read these links and make improvements to auDA, policy, transparency, conflicts of interest , FREE membership via online registration, published board candidate statements and forum etc;

    domainnames i have said this before, a post with a bunch of links will not get read, putting a link to a page that then links to EVERY agenda and minute of CIRA is going to have a 100% bounce rate, its a waste of your time.

    NOW, if you gave an example from the ?16th April 2015 ? minutes that said "bla bla blaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaa" that would be something people will read.

    Hi Tim,

    To discuss points from the report referred to;

    What is your position on auDA membership, Free memberships for registrants and the CEO's position of "Not Agree" as per that report?

    Will you put forward to auDA a proposal for increased memberships and free memberships such as the Canada model or what is your preferred model proposal for increased Membership and better auDA / Board engagement with the millions of paying registrants?

    It is fone to say for or agai9nst but someone needs to start clearly documenting why for and why against with examples that do not work and which do work.. thus links to provide information have been provided.

    If I was a candidate I would be reading all the info I could to know how to answers and put forward a valid argument for change or no change when faced with opposition and debate.

    Of course some do not want more members... They want to stack things

    ALL this i have said previously, nothing new here.

    i think free membership with a strong look at canadas success, even then they still only have 15k of members so an opt in method is acceptable and 15k isn't unmanageable.
    i am puzzled by the ceo's "not agree", it seems to go against what he has previously seem to suggest.
    auda needs a plan of active engagement with all domain owners
    its obvious some do not want more members.

    such a change would require a panel, they can do the deep reading. what i have read is enough for me to be behind the idea.

    I interpret 'broaden and expand' as getting a wider variety of members to represent a better cross section of domain owners, i.e.

    *not* increase to millions

    imo

    Think that would be a good idea. The whole demand and supply thing is broken. Supply shouldn't rank in any meaningful way (why give a handful of registrars/registries a voting block?) and demand seems to mainly mean domainers. Actual endusers (which is really why the domain name system exists) have no say at all.

    AUDA does need to eventually bin the current model in my view, can imagine that will take along time though.

    There's no reason for the supply side to have such a position.
    At the moment you basically have US corporations dictating how our domain system should be destroyed.

    My favourite is

    9.auDA staff should continue to work to ensure the membership base is resistant to criticism, including establishing a ‘fit and proper’ criteria, a stronger vetting process for new member applications and cleaning up the existing database of members where members do not meet the
    expected standard

    Can someone explain what the expected standard is and who draws the line.

    Agree, this stuff sound really odd when I read it.

    Why does the report say nothing of any substance on the standard of directors? AUDA won't have any credibility until they are willing to clean up the mess of the .au vote.

    You are so right ...First Icann ...now making a fortune ..we have Neustar Inc. ( USA) ( Ausregistry) trying to change the Australian system and bring in another .au domain name extension to make even more profits which will go offshore out of Australia! They do not seem to have commented on the now proven failure of direct .uk and .nz which they claim Australia must just follow blindly into failure.... They want more profits! They know most registrations will be just for existing registrants defensive registrations..That's what happened in uk and nz and even now those extra extensions are being dropped as people wake up to the rip off. Only 6% of the .uk version of .co.uk, .net.uk names are registered at all since it began years ago!

    Enough is Enough. This may have shot some in the foot when it comes time for the new registry tender...Hopefully an 100% Australian owned company ( with no offshore company links) or even the Australian government itself do the next role as wholesale registry.

    I still think the Australian Government could do wholesale registry themselves easily as the Singapore government does. Cut out the auDA and Neustar Inc USA / Ausregistry middlemen and put the profits back into Australia or back to fee paying registrants with lower prices and no COR fees etc.

    Medicare bulk billing would be one example but I don't want to open the floodgates of debate on that one :)
