So noticed a bit of talk around about http://www.Binarylane.com.au so I signed up, it's cheap. I had the base os system installed as ubuntu but apart from this I really have nfi what I am doing. Is there anyone here who'd be able to give me some lessons? I am a fast learner. What I am mostly wanting to be able to do is deploy websites that require extra functionality like JAVA (which I was able to install...I think)
But would also be nice to have some kinda of front end client systems etc.

I had a look at Binarylane. It is a VPS service similar to Digital Ocean and Linode. You get a base install of a Linux distribution.
They seem to offer Windows as well. You would have to install everything manually. To create a web server you need to install a LAMP (LINUX, APACHE, MYSQL, PHP) stack onto your VPS.
If you want a front end for clients you may want to have a look at WHM with cPanel at http://cpanel.com/
WHM is not free however.
I hope this helps
