Australian Regions anyone?

I've been searching for Australian region information for a while now without much success.

Does anyone happen to know where i could find this?

I have found many sources for post codes, long/lat, suburbs etc, but no complete list with correct regions.

Have used these so far but none have what i'm after:

All have either no regions or incorrect data.

The http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au website has the data i'm after, but I need to search each post code individually to gather the region info. and that's just not going to happen.

Anyone have any source they can help with?

I'm sure they do, but i'm not sure where to get my hands on the list.

I am not sure how to automate is myself.. the data can be found here when you dig down: http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au/ausstats/nrpmaps.nsf/NEW+GmapPages/national+regional+profile

You enter a suburb, then on the map it shows the closest region. When you select the nearest marker it then expands the regions on the list to show the tree.

I am happy to only have the first level region, but any deeper levels would not hurt.

The example below shows..

Tathra 2550 > NSW > South Eastern > Lower South Coast

If you want to automate it you could try Yahoo! Geo Technologies.

The way the data is structured is outlined here:

It appears to have regional informationn under Admin.

No I havent implimented this yet.

I think i'll take away the need for them anyway.

Wasn't really able to find anything that made it happen real easy.

Just an idea, I haven't checked anything, buuut... you could probably just go on Domain or Real Estate, and use their region/suburb lists and then go through and assign the postcodes/other information to them that you want.

But that again is a manual process from what I can see.

I am not in that much need to be manually assigning the region to every suburb in the country.

If there was an easier way, or an available list then i'd use it.
