Mr Leptos brings considerable corporate board and not-for-profit sector experience to the role and has substantial experience in the investment, technology and government sectors. Mr Leptos was appointed by the auDA Board following an exhaustive recruitment process undertaken by Hattonneale, in conjunction with the recruitment subcommittee of the auDA Board. He takes up his position as Chair following formal notification to ASIC. A separate formal announcement regarding Mr Leptos' appointment will be made soon.

.au Domain Review
Last month, the Commonwealth Government announced a review into the .au domain. The review, being undertaken by the Department of Communications and the Arts, is seeking public submissions on frameworks for managing .au, how to ensure government and community expectations inform decision-marking, and strategies to address the ongoing security and stability of the domain. A discussion paper will soon be released.

As mentioned in our statement, auDA welcomes the review. The government has not reviewed its relationship with auDA for nearly 20 years and we look forward to working with the government to enhance the governance and security of the .au domain space. We encourage members to make a submission to the review.

Constitutional Review Committee
The Constitutional review process has commenced with the announcement of the members of the Member Constitutional Reform Committee. The Committee has been established to review and make recommendations on potential reforms to ensure the Constitution reflects auDA’s purpose and values.
The Committee comprises:
  • Scott Long as Chair (Demand)
  • James Deck (Supply)
  • Luke Grogan (Demand)
  • Robert Kaay (Supply)
  • Belinda Wadeson (Demand)
  • Luke Summers (Demand)
  • Rod Keys (Supply)
  • Sean Fogarty (Demand)
In addition, the Committee will evaluate the Constitution to ensure it continues to comply with ICANN’s expectations of ccTLDs.

The Committee will also work on the implementation of the recommendations of the Cameron Ralph Khoury review into governance models.

The Committee met for the first time today.

Policy Review Panel Update
Public submissions closed last Friday for the first phase of the Policy Review Panel’s work: the development of an implementation policy for Direct Registration.

Thank you to all members who submitted a response. These submissions will soon be published on the Policy Review Panel website.

There will be further opportunities to participate in the work of the Panel and these opportunities will be announced to members via our mailing list and on social media.

Registry Transformation Project Update
The Registry Transformation Project is entering its final stages, with representatives of the Project team meeting with all the respondents to the RFT and several customer referees at the recent ICANN60 conference in Abu Dhabi. As per established timelines for the Project, further information will be made available to members shortly.

Company Secretary Appointment
auDA has appointed Boardroom Pty Ltd as its representative Company Secretary. This appointment follows a competitive process whereby Boardroom was selected due to the firm’s status as a leading provider of professional services in Australia and Asia-Pacific. Boardroom currently provides services to over 45 listed Australian companies, to over 100 private companies and is Australia’s largest Corporate Secretarial services business. auDA looks forward to its new relationship with Boardroom.

Deloitte Access Economics Report
In late 2016, auDA commissioned Deloitte Access Economics to conduct an “Economic Analysis of the .au Domain Range”. The review conducted three research streams: an analysis of direct registration, an analysis of the .au domain as critical infrastructure and an analysis of the economic and social contribution of .au. The draft report has already been provided to the Policy Review Panel for consideration of the findings with their policy development. The board has approved release of the report once it is finalised. It will then be placed on the auDA website and appropriate notification will be made.

Nah surely it's just a giant coincidence.

Who needs Kevin Bacon when you can join the Mentone branch of the liberal party.

Actually that's how you know it's on the nose. There's no connection to Kevin Bacon.

Alister Irvine Paterson (born 14 March 1959) is a former Australian politician. He was the Liberal member for South Barwon in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1992 to 2002.

Paterson was born in Melbourne to John Austin Paterson and Marjorie Webber Ball. He was educated at Scotch College, and subsequently became a journalist, although he also worked as a sales and programming executive. He was a founding member of the Melbourne branch of the Liberal Party in 1982, and worked for party media training from 1982 to 1991. From 1987 to 1989 he was senior newsreader on ATV10, and a radio host and commentator on 3AW from 1988 to 1990. From 1991 to 1992 he was a self-employed media consultant.[1]

In 1992, Paterson was selected to contest the state seat of South Barwon against Liberal-turned-Independent MP Harley Dickinson. Paterson defeated Dickinson to win the seat. He sat as a backbencher from his election until his defeat in 2002.[1]
