Scott Long resigns from auDA’s Constitution Reform Committee...

"In an excoriating open letter to auDA management, Scott Long, Chair of auDA’s Constitution Reform Committee, has resigned from a committee that, according to Domain Pulse sources, an auDA Board member inferred members were ‘selected to cause instability and infighting, and possibly to fail, to demonstrate through deflection to DoCA [Department of Communications and the Arts] that members are to blame for auDA’s problems.’ And not only have auDA, the policy and regulatory body for Australia’s ccTLD, worked to undermine the Committee’s work, they are seeking to “remove or significantly limit” the role of members in the organisation."

What I don't follow with it is all is, what is the point in auDA submitting to the government 4 out 5 models which work against the membership base?

I know auDA doesn't want a membership base, but how can auDA ever hope to remove the membership base? What constitutional reform can the government do to remove the membership base?

If one of those first 4 models is somehow adopted as the best one it will be voted down in a special resolution. Was auDA aware of this? Why would people vote for it?

The fifth one is potentially more acceptable. But are flirting with disaster submitting that document and I don't see the potential upside either. If the government scraps AUDA I think there is no chance that existing management from the failed entity will somehow be involved in the next entity.

Wow... Big news, but not at all surprising.

Erhan approached me before the CRC was announced. He said it was something he was putting together, and encouraged me to get involved.

Something felt wrong about it from that very first call, and as a result I didn't nominate for the committee.

To read Scott's comments in the full article... well it just doesn't surprise me at all. It's almost exactly as I expected.

I never bought into this whole idea that auDA should be dissolved with a Government department taking over, but I feel that's now the only way to fix it.

What a sad and sorry state of affairs...
