An .au domain should not be appraised as worth reg fee because somebody has to pay COR if there is a sale.
So if the seller pays COR and sells for reg fee, the value of the domain is zero
If the buyer pays COR, the value of the domain is more than reg fee unless the seller is giving it away for free

So please, no more appraisals of "It is worth reg fee"

Joe I think you are right.

Sometimes I think a name is worth perhaps reg fee, $10-$20. But in reality these is probably no market at all ($0) given the COR fee.

Regarding the buyer paying the COR fee though, if they are paying $70, $20 to the seller and $50 COR then in my view than name is worth $20, because value is a likely selling price, not what a buyer might have to pay after taxes, admin fees, etc. ie if I buy a can of Coke for $3 I know it is probably not worth that, I'm paying a premium based on convenience/tax etc. I might still pay it though, just because I want that can of Coke.

(For those who think a can of Coke is not very comparable to domains you are right, most of the time a can of Coke is worth far more).

Though it will be interesting to see how things develop now that NetFleet have their own domain hosting and COR process which could potentially streamline the bidding and COR process.

We might see people valuing a domain for between $0 - $100 and there actually being a chance that the domain could be resold via the AMA at such a price (usually I assume any domain that attracts valuations of less <$100 is in reality worth $0 because no one buys these domains due to the hassle and cost of the transfer).

I don't think when someone says 'it's worth reg fee' it should be taken literally.

I think the meaning is 'Yeah, looks it's probably worth hanging on to, I guess'. That's certainly what I mean by it. Not good enough to bother developing, or chasing end-users but just good enough to pay the renewal and hope for a sale or increase in value at some stage in the future
