I'm not sure, but I'd say the money would be better spent acquiring sydney .com and .com.au if they don't already own them.

At $25,000/year plus initial $185k, I just couldn't see this being a wise financial decision.

Even if the .com cost a $mil, it's a safer bet compared to these .anythings, IMO.

I think these .anything 's are great, though not for .sydney etc. Stuff like .music and .host or .hosting sound like a far better idea. The big things that apply world wide, not just in Australia

.anything = another fail.

Saw this article today - any thoughts on how these may rank with the major search engines?
Only time will tell.

That said, given the sheer amount of money these cost to acquire (could potentially signal a high quality site) it will be interesting to see if Google doesn't group these in with the other junk extensions.

This was on ACA the other day. Everyone was saying how good it was.
I hope this fails.

Old good use I see from it is if banks and other important businesses use it as a security feature. eg. If it doesn't end in .anz don't put in your details.

If they do this they might as well just sell keywords. http://sydney or http://dntrade.

.stupid (it is a waste of money imo) brands need to get .com.au domains Google will take years to recognize .domaintld domains and .com.au will always be a stronger TLD.
