My Macbook has been overtaken with an advertising virus / worm
~
Even my own websites now have underlined green words that obviously lead to advertising links, i have tried a few things and cannot fix it \, any ideas, has this happened to you ? Have you heard of this situation before
~
Thanks for any answers in advance

I had a similar problem.
But it was not a virus. It was a Chrome plugin which I had downloaded without realizing. (I know there is a Firefox version of it too.)

Could this be it? (Sorry I dont recall the name of the plugin)

spacey its your computer, not the website

not sure on MAC but this is what i suggest on PC

use: ( all free )
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
http://www.eset.com/au/ ( free 30days )
http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.combofix.org/

one of these will grab it and clean it, then you can just delete them after its fixed if you want.

normally the green link will show a promo for the bug, then search that in google and add the word, malware or scam or virus or spyware and someone will have a solution

do anti virus packages pick this bug up ?

i would say yes but as i am using a Mac without a anti virus, i was hoping to avoid this kind of thing, i must admit i have been to websites with the green underlined ads before but i always thought it was an advertising platform that the website owner had installed ?? But when i noticed it on one of my sites it was a 'hey hang on moment' The other one was a hundred websites seemed to be cacheing my details even moments after i had removed them from my browsing in preferences. Tims suggestion of eset was able to alleviate the problem and i can see what files were infected. During the day i have read that a virus for a Mac is now not so uncommon as there are so many of them out there. I wasn't even looking at porn when i got the virus !!
~
The other thing was the bouncy ads that were even present when i came here to dntrade and google, they seem to be able to insert themselves into the top banner ads. Also when at another forum the ads appeared in a reply box as well ….. over for now but my free trial ends in a month, i guess i will have to deal with it then ….. cheers
~
Also i was unable to access my google adsense account, now it is working again ??

Spacey this is the new quote of the month mate! hahahah

The reason I asked about anti virus is that I also use a Mac but have always had internet security products installed. Even though there arent as many Mac viruses, they still exist...

no, you hit a button, say yes to something and its IN YOUR SYSTEM because you allowed it in.

nod32 are actually in brisbane, and actually pick up the phone !!!

great people, i've been using them for 15 yrs

one of the guys said these type of viruses/malware reinvent themselves every 30 minutes so its difficult for them to keep up with it.

so the bottom line is "beware what you click"

as for "porn" , this can happen on ANY site, even "how to cook a pizza" so always be on gaurd

I would have thought yes, if your computer scans and warns, pleased to say it has not come back at this point

updating your virus software and doing scans are very different. "you can buy a backup hard drive but never take it out of the box"

I was meaning that i have had warnings of suspect sites before when using a anti virus, thus i left the site immediately and the anti virus had done it's job. Of course there will be times when this doesn't happen but the minute somethings up you do a scan and quarantine/fix the problem, who said updating ? One of the main points of the thread was that now even Macs are being targeted and the type of virus (inserting advertising links) and taking over the google ads. I have never come across it before
