A Better Domain

I was talking to a potential buyer for an LLL .com.au domain which was an acronym that is part of his business name and is what they are known by. After a follow-up email a few weeks later I got the following response:

"I ended up securing a better three LTR domain name LLL.rentals" (I changed his domain with LLL for this post)

I must say, that in the past 2 - 3 weeks I have been looking to get a few of these gTLDs for myself and to my surprise, a LOT of domains are taken, not counting the "premium" overpriced ones from the registrars.

Are these gTLDs affecting sales in .com.au for any of you?

Most likely, what this end user means is that they found a cheaper 3L domain.
There is no way that LLL.rentals is better than .com.au in the Australian marketplace.
.com.au is the standard, the most used and the best recognised. Most people wouldn't even realise that LLL.rentals is a domain name.
