    .au numbers

I have some personal domains which are on .com which I am considering moving to .au because my cost is cheaper (especially with a low AUD), it's arguably better to be on a .au for an Australian audience (but technically don't qualify for a .com.au) and these are low volume sites where SEO...

SynergyWholesale email .au Domain Eligibility - Action Required

We had a situation last year where a church I managed a domain and website for had changed their organisation structure and become an incorporated entity. As part of the restructure, their ABN changed (nobody was able to explain exactly why they were advised to change the ABN - but no matter)...

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

... and 1,329,843 .com domains, 105,693 .net domains, even 27,314 .info domains (I mean seriously - who buys .info domains?) listed on Flippa. I stand by my comments ... there's not that much demand for .io domains and certainly not much hype.

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

Actually I think it's largely the opposite - because of the higher holding costs, I don't see a huge rush to register heaps of .io domains for speculative purposes. This is another reason why it's quite popular with SaaS businesses - because it's relatively expensive and thus not as widely held...

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

.io domains are great for online services - plenty of SaaS companies use .io ... but I wouldn't use them for any other type of business, especially not one with an exclusive Australian focus where .com.au is a much better choice.

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

I used to own dotio.io, but I let it lapse because I didn't really have a valid reason to keep it, and .io domains are too expensive to hold for vanity purposes!!

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

I love Mark Newton's humour in domain names - his website is slash.dotat.org and his mail domain is atdot.dotat.org ... he used to use the email name "dotty" ... dotty at atdot dot dotat dot org

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

I spend a lot of time explaining to my clients the importance of choosing a good domain name and I like to use the "phone test" is (if you have to say your website name over the phone - how easy is it for the other person to understand?). Radio is also a good test - how easy is it to understand...

Joe Public thinks .Com is an excellent alternative to .Com.Au

I don't get the price argument - Melbourne IT shouldn't be used as a yardstick, everyone knows they are an anomaly. I don't know any non-technical person who even knows about Melbourne IT - they buy their domain names from GoDaddy or CrazyDomains. Based on current exchange rates, most...

    newTLDs are expiring

A recent observation - my clients are starting to allow their newTLD domains to expire. These are typically small businesses who have registered domains mostly for brand protection. I didn't encourage them to register these domains - they were either registered directly or they initiated the...

What's the standard Netfleet TTL for NS?

Most of my domains parked on Netfleet seem to be set to 14400 (4 hours) You may find some DNS servers cache results for up to 48 hours regardless of TTL settings (which is very annoying).

Netfleet change of registrant (COR) too expensive

Actually ... just checked the Melbourne IT website ... currently charging $153.98 for a 2 year .com.au registration. HELLO MELBOURNE IT ... THE DOT.COM BOOM CALLED AND THEY WANT THEIR PRICES BACK!!

Netfleet change of registrant (COR) too expensive

Just for laughs, I tracked down my original receipts for my first domain I ever registered (in 2001), which was also the first domain I did a CoR on (in 2009). $140 for .com.au registration in 2001 (and back then they enforced the "related name" rule - I could only register the name because it...

Netfleet change of registrant (COR) too expensive

Hangon ... CoR may be free, but transfers are not (well they are kind of but not really) ... you pay for a 12 month renewal every time you transfer a .com domain. Yes, it gets added to the existing expiry date so you are actually getting value for the money - but it's still a cost I'd rather not...

Netfleet change of registrant (COR) too expensive

Yup, Ventra and other registrars charge the same as their renewal fee - which I think is a fair price.

    10K in first week !

Absolutely - minimise the friction to completion. Any hurdles you put in the way is just another excuse for an abandoned shopping cart. Follow up after the sale to continue engagement and continue selling and enhance your profile data.

Yup - got a heap too ... looks like someone just updated something which sent out a backlog of stuff. I'm just ignoring them.

    Domain Sales List 2017

I bid on this on Netfleet when it dropped - I think I offered $500 and was outbid. I always preferred the term advisor over adviser, but in recent years I've noticed a lot more people using the term adviser, so I started moving to that usage myself. However, I just checked Google Trends and...
