Draft recommendations from the 2015 Names Policy Panel

Well, if auDA are going to go down the controversial path of equal rights for .net.au and .com.au holders to the top-level .au domain, then maybe we need to ensure we have registered the .net.au equivalents of our .com.au domains to avoid someone else causing us grief down the track.

Domain Name Company - new scam

Over the years, I've been receiving in the mail what look like invoices from Domain Register and Domain Name Group for variations of my existing domains. Today, a new one has surfaced - "Domain Name Company" - see www.domainnamecompany.com.au Very similar looking invoice to previous ones I had...

Geo Ntld's Flopping -.Berlin, .Tokyo etc

In many cases, I think the top level domain is not as important as it was many years ago. This is because people are increasingly not entering a URL into the browser's location bar, but typing the business name or product in a search box. For example, if someone wants to go to the website of...

    Melbourne beats Sydney

It's a shame that Melbourne is lengthy 9 characters long, and thus prone to typos or typing/tapping fatigue for a TLD. In the article, the example they give of a possible usage is grandprix.melbourne which is 19 characters. Yet the existing domain name for that event, grandprix.com.au, is...

It's also interesting to use the Way Back machine to see how crappy some websites looked like 10 years ago!

    Multiple domains on one website

I think that in many cases, the full word "Australia" in a com.au domain is superfluous, as the country code already indicates that the website is something to do with Australia.

    Best Photo Resource

I think that's fair. Going the other way around, if I come across any of my photos in someone's blog or a website, as long as they credit it and provide a link to the source (i.e. my website) then I have no problem with them using my photos.

Premium .com.au domain names a valuable asset for Australian businesses

For .com.au domains, there appears to be several email fields in the registration details: 1) Registrant Contact Email 2) Admin Contact Email 3) Tech contact Email 4) Billing contact I wonder if all those email addresses (if they are not all the same) are individually sent expiry...

Premium .com.au domain names a valuable asset for Australian businesses

Some interesting points in that article. However, was Woolworth's $33,000 purchase of "hardware.com.au" worthwhile given that for the last 4 years they have done nothing with it? Shouldn't they have least redirected to the website of their new hardware brand, Masters? Interestingly, the...

    Sorrento, Victoria

A number of us were wondering about the sorrento.com.au domain, given that it recently fetched a standout price compared to many other geo domains on Netfleet at: https://www.dntrade.com.au/domain-news/7332-domain-sales-list-2013-a-6.html#post59934 Did you also try and bid on the Portsea domain?

    Domain Sales List 2013

It's very interesting how those two, from Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, are the highest selling geo domains this year, excluding the Australian capital city names. Many geo domains that were released in 2005 through the $825 ballot have been sold for less than their purchase price, and some...

    TravelDirectory.com.au

I bought TravelDirectory.com.au in a domain expiring auction on NetFleet about a year ago. I was the only bidder, which makes me think it's not that valuable, but then again, it has two generic words in it which are relevant to the travel industry. Any opinions?

    .melbourne

What's the bet that heaps of Melbourne-based businesses and attractions will simply buy a .melbourne domain only for the purpose of redirecting it to their existing .com.au site? So you'll get eurekaskydeck.com.au buying eurekaskydeck.melbourne, fedsquare.com.au buying fedsquare.melbourne, etc...

    stock libraries

You're right about iStockPhoto. I've used ShutterStock in recent times which are slightly cheaper for casual use. However, their 25-a-day subscriptions are excellent value if you require a lot of images. Pay $249 for one month. This effectively gives you 750 images if you space out the...

Actionable SEO tips for all website owners to increase traffic!

This might be slightly off the topic, but in regards to good and bad links, should Google seriously be penalising websites for incoming links? I can imagine a scenario where a webmaster decides that instead of gaining quality links (a time intensive and expensive task), they employ groups of...

    Freelance web designer nightmare

That reminds me of another piece of very valuable advice that Erhan gave which I forgot to mention. Because my web designer had refused to sign any sort of contract for the work, it means that he may actually retain ownership of the intellectual property created (if he actually bothered to...

    Freelance web designer nightmare

I thought I'd give everyone an update as to what was happening here. I was in contact with Erhan from Cooper Mills Lawyers (www.coopermills.com.au) on Tuesday last week. May I say, Erhan is a fantastic bloke who took the time to listen to my situation and offer some good advice, all at no...

    Freelance web designer nightmare

There's been a new development in this situation. Last month, I instructed my bank to reverse the payments I'd made over the internet for the $6,490 sent to this freelance web designer I hired as they hadn't delivered me anything I could use. The bank has sent me a letter stating that the...

    Freelance web designer nightmare

I don't think an individual can do that, as form 4a, which is titled "Overarching obligations certification", has bits to fill in including court number, Australian lawyer name, etc. So I assume I need a lawyer to do this. If anyone's got any recommendations for someone who has modest fees...
