    auDA casual board vacancy

Good questions that I'd also like answered. I was asked to order police and bankruptcy checks only a few business hours after the interview, and that the reason was "to save time". A month later, and what a joke that now is... Perhaps they thought they might find something... :D

    auDA casual board vacancy

What we can take from this is that certain auDA directors are against genuine demand class representation. What are they afraid of? It's a disgrace that they're taking this course of action. They're not respecting the fact that auDA is a membership organisation. Those directors may think...

    auDA casual board vacancy

I emailed the interim chair (Erhan) and the other director involved in the process (Tim) on Friday afternoon to advise that I was withdrawing my nomination. The way this whole process has been handled is nothing short of disgraceful. It's been a month since I was asked to pay for my own...

Mr Ned O'Meara Appointed To Policy Panel

I didn't say anything about the board. I take your point about it being the decision of the panel chair though.

.NZ CEO rejects claims Direct Registrations have been a disaster

I certainly dropped a lot of domains following those updates.

Mr Ned O'Meara Appointed To Policy Panel

Well done Ned. It's fantastic to have someone of your calibre on the panel. Credit to auDA for choosing the person who is perhaps their greatest critic.

    Blackout Week Protest

Perhaps the difference is that you're using registration numbers to determine success or failure. I'm looking at the real outcomes for businesses. I'm not seeing any businesses on page one of google.co.nz for popular search terms who are using the .nz option. I'm sure most of them have...

    Blackout Week Protest

Just did a similar thing on google.co.uk. Roughly 50/50 split between co.uk and .com in the first page results. I did not see one single .uk website. To think that Australia is going to be different, and that businesses here will embrace direct registrations, seems crazy to me.

    Blackout Week Protest

If one of the main supposed benefits of direct registrations is the shorter domain, and better branding, then I'm going say .nz has been a failure. I've just spent some time searching on google.co.nz for a heap of popular terms, and the number of .nz domains was zero. Not a single result...

    Blackout Week Protest

Hi Robert. I'm interested to know why they love it. Is it just because of the shorter domain? I've also spoken to a lot of small business owners, and the feedback has been overall negative. It's the confusion that seems to be the biggest issue for those I speak with. Clients of mine are...

    Blackout Week Protest

Using my business as an example, I don't care if someone registers traderisk.xyz or traderisk.melbourne. They mean nothing to me and no one is going to type in the wrong domain or, perhaps more importantly, get the email address wrong. But if there's a traderisk.com.au and traderisk.au out...

    Blackout Week Protest

That's assuming existing com.au holders are given rights. What if it goes to the holder with the earliest create date, as has been suggested? That potentially means the com.au you paid thousands of dollars for on the drops is going to lose value because the net.au holder will pick up the .au...

The rising popularity of .Com in Australia

That's a good point. I used to have dozens and dozens of related domains for my businesses, but over the years I've realised they're just wasted renewals that add no value. I keep a couple of good ones for defensive reasons now, but I see little point in having loads of different variations.

The rising popularity of .Com in Australia

I'm not convinced about Australian businesses switching to .com. Sure there are some, like many of the banks using .com, but these are global businesses rather than purely Australian focused. Personally I'd love to have traderisk.com just to have it, but I'd never switch our website and emails...

Is AUDA competent to run the registry?

I can't agree more. As Ned quoted in his article on Domainer, the CEO said the following just last month: "It is the simple premise that if any consumer goes to a dot au website, they can have confidence that that dot au website represents exactly what it should be. That the policy settings...

moving a facebook page from old owner account

If the old owner has deleted himself you'll be fine. The connection is gone and it doesn't matter what he does with his personal account. I've done it a few times, both as the new owner and old owner. When you go to Settings > Page Roles, can you only see the new owner listed under "Existing...

    2017 Board Elections

It's a real shame that members won't get a chance to vote you in Ned, but I completely understand your reasons. Demand Class members owe you a debt of gratitude. Cheers to keeping healthy and doing good business! :D

Nominating for the auDA board in 2017

Following Ned's fantastic announcement this morning, here is my own announcement regarding this year's auDA board elections: ------------------------------ After narrowly missing out on the board last year, I’m pleased to announce that I will be nominating as a demand class director again in...
