Redemption Period

Hi guys,

I stupidly neglected to renew a .org domain and according to Namecheap customer support it has now gone into a redemption period with an AU$140 fee to retrieve the domain. According to what I have read, during this period the upstream provider may auction off the domain? But if the domain comes out of the redemption period without it being auctioned, I might be able to renew the domain without paying the fee?

Could anybody familiar with this process please advise me where the domain will be auctioned during the redemption period, and how long after the grace period has ended can I expect that to happen. And what's my best course of action here? I can afford to pay the fee if absolutely necessary but I am on a tight budget so if I can avoid it, I would really like to.

If your domain name has already entered "Redemption Period" status without anyone bidding on the domain at GoDaddy
https://www.namecheap.com/blog/your-domain-expired/ - then you may be best to pay the extra fees, if the domain is of value to you... or otherwise you could wait an hope to pick it up upon expiry with a dropcatcher like NameJet.com or Dropcatch.com
