Problems with iVote and the NSW Elections

There was a bit of news about this...

The New South Wales state election was held over the weekend.

<snip>

Thousands of voters who attempted to use the online iVote system were met with errors as the system failed to live up to the demand.

Reports of widespread issues began on Friday evening and continued throughout election day. Users were receiving both 502 'bad gateway' and 503 'service unavailable' errors

But not as much about this...

Researchers have found a new vulnerability in a Swiss e-voting platform that could point to the existence of previously unknown security flaws in the iVote platform used by New South Wales.

There will always be risks associated with this sort of thing but that is a worry given the alternatives. I've been following the local Horizon State team (https://horizonstate.com) who have been working on a blockchain based voting platform. It would be good to see more about this and how it has been used.

I know a lot of people don't trust online voting, for good reason, but it's inevitable so would be good to see it as open as possible.
