Luke at Domainer has done a wonderful job of summarising the results of the submissions to the Policy Review Panel.

Most submissions indicate they are not in favour of direct registrations. So auDA is it time to review this issue?

Just for clarification, that is Luke O'Meara! Not Luke who is on the PRP!

It seem to me support for .au direct registrations is getting to very low levels. The only ones to support look to be registrars from the submissions I read.

For domain monetisation I counted 13 in favour of it and 6 against.

A good news story out of Ireland. Relax the red tape a tad, and look at registrations soar. Comparatively speaking of course.

The surge is due to a change in policy which means it is no longer necessary for applicants to justify their reasons for requesting a particular domain name. All that is required is that to show a connection to Ireland.

interesting to see that ireland has almost the same population as new zealand but didn't feel the need to add an extension to fix their lack of registration ?

Agreed. But this is an weird backward step. Note that there is no mention of Mr Zawa offering, nor the PRP requesting, a proxy.
Perhaps I am reading too much in to it, but the withdrawal and effective disengagement of the ACCC rings a few alarm bells for me.

i think the ACCC want to distance themselves..

It was a case of the left hand not speaking to the right.... different ACCC divisions doing different things which may conflict with each other..
