we all know i am "back up back up back up" but a storm just HIT our house, i saw it coming, lightning and thunder.
so i'm currently online wireless, laptop not plugged in and surge protectors on the whole house, but on top i have unplugged a few things "to be sure to be sure", its pelting down and a little bit of hail i think.

seems an obvious thing doesn't it ! but i recently asked my brother in law if he had all his stuff on surge protectors and he didn't ! now this guy has a SERIOUS TV, its ...........i don't know.......... ummm about 6 foot wide !!!! and he doesn't have a surge protector !

anyway, just a heads up, i am SURE you all have it under control.

I suspect they don't help prevent anything, a bit like Diet Coke & Virus Checkers for Mac's. If anything did happen they'd deny everything then tell you their built in insurance does not include electrical products.

no doubt, but i'd rather have something then nothing.
story-----------------

i've been doing some woodwork building cubbies etc, i had my circular saw and went to cut a piece of wood only to cut THROUGH the cord !!!! BAMMM , it was hanging down and somehow the blade grabbed it, pulled it up to the wood where it stopped and of course had no choice but to cut through it.

it of course was double insulated saw but also the powerboard cut out and it didn't blow a fuse in the house so it must have worked.
and that was just a $20 powerboard surge protector from bunnings.

i understand the insurance, thats just like any insurance, in the brisabane floods people said they had flood insurance only to find out it was capped at $1500 ! my mums neighbours found that out as their house went under, as my mums house then went under her insurance company deposited $5k in her bank and said they'd sort the rest out later, @ $280k later mum and dad were back in the house without a cent leaving their pocket.
-----------------------
surge is only for unexpected events, unless you pay HEAPS but a few $30 power boards could save you some money

Line Interactive UPS's on Surge Protectored power boards. I set this up on Computer Equipment regularly. At minimum, get a surge protector.

P.S. Surge Protectors do turn into regular power boards once they have done their job. Check the status light on them regularly.
