auDA have applied for a new trademark AUHQ. Interesting to see the classes they have registered it under. Are they thinking of creating a new entity in place of auDA??

So the CEO openly lied at the member meet-up - Luke enquired about the registry model [40:44] and gave some examples, Cameron responded; we don’t know what it will look like...

He knew 'exactly' what is planned.
  • Registration of Trading name
  • Registration of Domain Name
  • Registration of Trademark with logo
what is more interesting about the trademark registration is Class 45:

Registration of domain names; leasing of internet domain names; creation and maintenance of a register of domain names

Where in the constitution does it incorporate those terms?

AUHQ.SUCKS is available for registration... For brand protection should they go and register the 2000 different domain name extensions?

Let's hope we do not see an auDA ( AUHQ ) business model like this?..... but things have certainly changed for the worse in the last year. We all thought it was bad before!
  • No Supply or Demand members
  • Wholesale Registry
  • Australian au administration
  • For Profit
  • Performance bonuses for staff based on increased profits
  • New grand building and fitout
  • New Domain Name Policy
  • New auDRP model
  • No accountability
  • No transparency
  • Anyone else's opinions are "INVALID"
  • Jobs / contracts / board positions / consulting for friends, mates, associates, extended family, Liberal political party members & colleagues..
  • Internal "best practice" standards
  • High expenses on lawyers
  • High expenses on travel, communications, marketing, parties, overseas trips, cars, office, non tendered "consulting"...

Little doubt AUDA will be tinkering with this as the ship continues to go down.

I think many people have doubts AUDA will get the registry done in time even if they didn't waste time on other stuff such as this, presenting roadshows to an audience of 3 people and wasting time defending a CoC cobbled together by a $10/hr intern.

So even 3 people was an exaggeration? 2.5 is the correct number?
Make that 3.5, as we actually started with 4.
But hey, you can say 3, 2.5, even 1 if you like. Just as long as I don't hear a '0' coming my way, particularly if it's preceded by '$'. :eek:

Just watched the video.
  • It sounds like AUDA will soon be running back to Ausregistry, at the 7:30 mark, “Potentially get the incumbent to lift their game”, then at 10:45 “We want them to be part of it”.
  • AUDA seems to be not very confident in the board decision on direct registrations, “We are deliberately taking our time to get this right, because internationally the examples are not as strong as we think”.
I think AUDA is in a lot of trouble after seeing the video.

The issue is that in there is no real experience in the domain industry.

They don't understand that demand class members are actually part of the industry. We have invested ourselves in developing the .au namespace into an industry because we believe in it.
I have invested a lot of time and effort in the .au namespace but am only a demand class member who is ignored. It seriously is time for supply and demand class members to step up to the plate. The current situation is a disgrace and changes should be made.

The auDA constitution states
3.2 Activities
Without reducing the effect of clause 4, auDA will enhance the benefits to Internet users through:
a. ensuring the continued operational stability of the domain name system in Australia;
b. establishing mechanisms to ensure it is responsive and accountable to the supply and demand sides of the Australian Internet Community;
c. the promotion of competition in the provision of domain name services;
d. the promotion of fair trading;
e. the promotion of consumer protection;
f. adopting open and transparent procedures which are inclusive of all parties having an interest in use of the domain name system in Australia;
g. ensuring its operations produce timely outputs which are relevant to the needs of the Australian Internet Community.
(Amended by Special Resolution, 14 August 2006)

Can you answer YES to all of the above?
I wish I could.
