Hi all,

just a quick snippet from ARN Magazine for those who may have an interest in 3D Domains.

Five smartphone hardware trends in 2011

"3D displays"

"The success of 3D in movie theaters is causing a ripple effect across the entire consumer electronics industry: TVs, game consoles, computers and smartphones are all being made 3D compatible. In Japan, Sharp has already announced two Android-based smartphones on which users will be able to play games and watch movies in 3D without the need of special glasses.

The jury is still out on whether 3D will be a success or not. 3D will be a major theme on mobile devices, but consumers are disappointed by the results so far, according to a report from CCS Insight predicting 2011 mobile trends."

Nice name Rod, you will do well with it IMO

I think it will be a huge success, but then I could be a little biased, because as you know, I have invested in quite a few 3D names.

I have these 3 .com.au's

3DPlayers.com.au
3DSmartPhones.com.au
Home3D.com.au

Lets hope 2011 will be a great year for 3D

Happy new year guys/gals

Does anyone care though? What is the attraction in watching a 3d movie on a phone? 3d seems to be struggling for large living room setups so what is the chance of it doing well on 10 cm screens?

I actually think holographic technology will be bigger and more successful than 3D technology. IBM predicts that holographic mobile phones will be around before 2015 :)

No idea, but if it is successful I can't imagine there being much demand for related aftermarket domains. It is another area where people have been speculating on it for maybe 5-10 years with no real payoff.

many many years ago i was in the city and dude outside one of the car auctions was carrying a suitcase and holding a walkie talkie , at the time i thought it was strange and only later on that week did i find out it was one of the first mobile phones , the suitcase was the battery it turned out , i am willing to bet that was at the time considered a 'fail' as well , but as we all know now nearly everyone has a mobile phone ......patience

Many, many years ago when I was a young child, I was walking through a Westfield shopping centre and a company was demo'ing Virtual Reality machines.

At first I thought it was strange that someone would want to stand in an enclosed space with a headset on but only later on that week did I watch The Lawnmower Man. A lot of people at that time suggested VR was the future, of course we now know the lawnmower man was truly deluded and nearly everyone does not have a VR machine let alone wants one.

Seriously though spacey, I don't know anyone that is interested in 3D anything. Even the Nintendo 3DS is shaping up to be their first flop in quite a while.

i happily disagree , i think the gaming community are chaffing at the bit to get into some serious 3d gaimes

regarding ar there is a company called www.layar.com and they are making inroads every day

Not going to argue with you about it though

Don't think of it as an argument spacey but as more of a discussion. Smart ass remarks aside, I don't mean any harm :)

AR is an apples to oranges comparison. The iPhone overtook Nintendo for handheld gaming in 2010 and the introduction of the 3DS won't have any impact on that. In fact, the Japanese aren't even interested in the 3DS and as a gamer, neither am I nor are my gamer friends.

There are no big 3d games currently in development (none on the horizon either) by the big gaming companies and Nvidia's (biggest producer of video cards) 3d vision was a major flop amongst gamers so I'm not sure why you would think gamers are "chaffing at the bit to get into some serious 3d games", that's simply not the case. In fact, most gamers don't even know it exists.

Why would I be getting so many offers on my 3D domains if there wasn't a demand for them...just curious? Not to mention the large increase in 3D domain sales in the last 18 months or so

Just curious if you are a gamer, I am and the 3D games being released in 2011 are very much anticipated. Just about every gamer I know has discussed at least and is aware of it.

Sony has reaffirmed its focus on gaming in three dimensions -- Kaz Hirai just announced during the company's E3 press conference that 20 titles developed with native 3D would be released by March 2011. Some of those titles we already know, such as Super Stardust HD. We'll try to track down a full list in the coming days.

Update: More 3D titles have been outed as the presentation rolls on: Motorstorm: San Francisco, Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, NBA 2K11, Sly Cooper Collection, Mortal Kombat, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, EyePet and Tron.

Interest Jonathan,

Here is another story on it also talking about 3dtv sales,

3D TV sales are not doing well. Advertisements for 3D TV experiences have all but vanished from the airwaves. 3D movies are tanking and even when the movies are hits, more people are seeing the films in 2D than 3D. Now 3D is set to claim another victim, the pretty cool Nintendo 3DS portable gaming handheld. It's still around, mind you, but Nintendo just dropped the price a whopping 32%.

I think it has become clear that is the debate about whether this is "just another 3d fad" (that has come and gone over the decades) vs "being something has evolved to the point that people really want it" the first argument is winning out.

With tv's it seems a lot of the better models have 3d but it doesn't seem to be the main selling point any more, it is something you might like if it costs 5 cents more but even then is anybody going to bother buying glasses and if you do are those glasses going to stay on for more than 5 minutes after you've watched avatar once? Yeah its cool but it is cool is the same way yo-yo's are cool.

Although saying that for the first time the day before yesterday I saw a big billboard advertising a 3d phone out by the airport
