As titled:

Would you buy 1 domain for $2000 or would you rather register 100 domains at $20 each?

I know I would rather renew a single name than 100

I agree. Pointless question without knowing the names involved.

Would you rather Sydney.com.au or 10,000 hand reg's?
Would you rather Awesome.com.au or 1000 hand reg's?

POINTLESS!!!

Stupid Question Indeed.

Same as Saying would it be better Buying 1 Block of Land or 1000 Blocks.

Depends
Answer would be easy to answer if
The 1 Block was Sydney Harbourside
The 1000 blocks bordered the Simpson Desert.

Without the Base Reference of Domain Names involved or the Niches covered. Is the one name Developed or a Killer Keyword.
So many variables to consider NOT just the number.

Myself, I would buy the 100 Domains and Develop them. However, others may just Buy the great $2k Name and park it. So many Questions arise, So many Answers needed.

Generally the one better name. It is going to be a lot more difficult to make a profit form 100 newly registered names as compared to one name worth $2000 in my view.

Stupid Question Indeed.

I don't think it's such a stupid question. And anyway, there is no such thing as stupid questions, just stupid answers!

The question could be relevant for almost any niche. A recent example on Netfleet is consultant.com.au which sold for $2,002. Would you rather buy that domain, or would you rather hand reg 100 domains relating to consultants?

The answer seems obvious to me, but that doesn't make it a stupid question.

Exactly what I said , without knowing the names the question is Stupid.
And I would buy consultant.com.au for $2K as that was An absolute Bargain.

Why didn't you then? Surprises me when people talk about domains selling for a steal why they didn't throw their hat in the ring?

I'm not being funny but if I thought a domain was worth $6K, say, and I saw it selling for $2K, I'd beg borrow and steal to try and win it as in my judgement I would have just made $4K profit...

I didn't , just the same as I didn't buy every other name On Netfleet/Drop that are bargains. Just because there is a bargain doesn't mean I would buy it. Same as I don't buy a ute Load of Bargains everytime COLES/ALDI/Woolies Supermarket lists them in Brochures.

I would BUY it in a flash for 2k rather than 2K worth of NEW Registrations. Which was the OP Question.

Interesting poll results right now
10 out of 10 say buy 1 name for $2k
Ok , who has got a name for sale for $2k?

LMAO am I the only guy in the poll who voted for the 100 domains?!?

I voted for the 100 basically because it's what I have done to date. I hand regged a couple hundred mid range domains (think 500 - 10,000 phrase match) about 12 - 24 months ago and have just been developing them slowly. I have flipped a couple domains without sites for low $X,XXX and have had loads of offers in the $XXX range.

My logic is with a few hundred domains/minisites with an average sale price of $1000 means you make a few hundred thousand in profit (note I'm assuming that development costs are paid off by advertising and lead sales on the sites in the intrim).

Nah yr not alone :] Depending on one's knowledge/skills/patience, I'm quite sure that out of the one hundred average domains, there's bound to be a good handful of "above average" ones.
