Default .xxx approved

Hi All

Just wondered what people think of this? It's been talked about for ages and finally ICANN have approved it.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/xxx...ess-tlds/16385

My personal opinion is it will just flop, but in the process net the ICM registry (guys who bagged the .xxx gig) heaps of cash. Above article says they have taken $20 million already in pre-sales and estimate to pull in $200m per year in sales.

Has anyone pre-ordered any? Do you think Google will weight adult searches towards .xxx domain names?

Cheers
Mark

I personally think it's a good idea. I think all xxx adult rated material should be only allowed on .xxx and not on .com at all.

It's a terrible idea. ASP has a good article arguing why this is a terrible move. I won't be buying any nor will I move my existing porn sites to a different extension.

How is anyone going to police it.
Can't happen. Dodgy porn sites use whatever means to spread their material.
Legit porn sites will be the only ones that would even consider using the gTLD.
but even they would not hesitate to still use any other extension if needed.

Of course nothing is going to stop 100% of the illegal distribution of the content however regulating it will remove some of it at least.

Since when has porn been illegal Nova? If you have moral objections, you're not required to watch but that doesn't mean the rest of us aren't entitled to do so. Don't bother playing the kiddy porn card because we all know its not a simple matter of surfing on over to kiddyporn.com to obtain that sort of stuff; it has nothing to do with www or extensions.

I have no moral objection to it. I also did not say it was illegal.

This argument will be futile, like anything related to religion
