Default Smart Community doesn't mean Smart Builder.

Hey all,

I recently moved into a Telstra "Smart Community" on the Gold Coast and been stuck with 3G Wireless for the past month between moves. (Painful)

Being the patient guy that I am I waited 2 weeks for Telstra man to come out today and install my television, phone line and most importantly my 100/5mbit interwebs (200gig/month @ $90/m).

The builder has buggered it all up! The conduit to the house is broken, the brickies haven't use conduit in the walls and I have fibre, as in the 10,000 pieces of fibre hanging out of the wall.

Other than just having a whinge, I hadn't heard much about these Smart Communities nor the fact that 100mbit connection with large quotas would be coming from Telstra for under $100 a month. (Note: 200gig includes incoming/outgoing data and I think at 12.5meg/sec I'll need a TB at least or it's 64kps shaping with 25 days to go.)

Has anyone had any experience with this 'Velocity' Network?

Even though Telstra is monopolizing and holding my phone, television and internet at ransom - are they on the way back? (Personally I have only ever had bad experiences with T)

I would never consider buying a property that is a part of these "smart" communities. If you hop on over to whirlpool.net.au, you can find numerous stories where people have had nothing but trouble.

Having worked at Telstra, I can say I would never ever use one of their services again or put myself in a position where they're the only option.

(Renting btw) I had a bit of a decent squiz yesterday - some horror stories. Alas, we moved for the bush and the peace and quiet and the thought of having fast net all seemed too good to be true.... And here we are - ha ha.

Alas, we have no other options and here's hoping that it all 'eventually' happens. On paper it looks as though we can have quicker net, foxtel, and a phone for less than what I was previously paying for ADSL2+. Bloody paper.

Telstra is a big place
I used to work there like others in this thread
All sorts of people work there
You might get lucky and get someone to help you get fast net and cheaper bills if you persist
Start at http://www.telstra.com.au/smartcommu...omeowners.html
Good Luck

Well, today is the day.

Finally fast interwebs, a phone, and television reception after a month of waiting.

$1500 credit = No phone or internet bill for 18 months so I am as happy as a pig in shit.

F**KTELSTRA.COM might get dropped after all =)

You could sell it to the owners of telstrasucks.com, telstracomplaints.com, telstratactics.com, tellthetruthtelstra.com.au etc etc

No shortage of end-users for this one!!
