Default ourbrisbane.com $55m FAIL

Quote:
Launched by Brisbane's then-lord mayor Jim Soorley in August 2001 at a cost of $18 million, ourbrisbane.com was intended to be a one-stop portal for Brisbane residents, a place where they could pay their rates online or plan their weekend's activites.
Quote:
A council spokesman said last night the website had cost a total of $55 million - minus profits - to operate over the past decade.
How not to run a site? I'm assuming they marketed it hard as that's a lot of money to spend launching a site.

Wow, that is a pretty big fail. I mean $18 million is far too much to start with. I mean even if you had a team of 10 full time working on it for a year (on max salary of $100,000) that's only $1 million and then the next 9 years would only require like 1 or 2 full time staff. That's crazy to spend $18 million let alone $55 million

55m is a lot of money but it pales in comparison to the NBN.

Although I think the NBN will provide much more in proportion to it's price. (Not saying they're not getting ripped off though)

I wonder if they've made a real attempt to get it profitable, ie cost cutting. With $2million revenue you'd think it could be run profitably in the right hands.

NBN is probably the biggest waste of money in the world.

Money should be invested into Health, Roads, Education but instead they blow it on what will be a outdated mean of communication in say 10-15 years (when it is finished, if that).

But a very stupid move turning to a Facebook owned property over a website.

Something we can agree on James

Jump on over to http://www.dntrade.com.au/national-b...rk-p18402.html to discuss NBN further if you want to get into it. Didn't meant to detract from original topic so my apologies.
