Default .org.au

Hi,

Is the registration of .org.au's policed?

I am seeing more and more of these extensions used by webmasters...

So does this make it OK to register?

Or will auDA take them from you or turn a blind eye? What measures are in place?

I'd say you loose the domain and auDA slaps the registrar on the wrist.

I could be wrong but I think the measures in place is an onus on the registrar to check eligibility. Remember last year when they audited all .org.au's? If that happens again or there is a complaint you would be asked to prove your eligibility.

1. To be eligible in the org.au 2LD, registrants must be:
a) an association incorporated in any Australian State or Territory; or
b) a political party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission; or
c) a trade union or other organisation registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996; or
d) a sporting or special interest club operating in Australia; or
e) a charity operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant’s constitution or other documents of incorporation; or
f) a non-profit organisation operating in Australia, as defined in the registrant’s constitution or other documents of incorporation.

2. Domain names in the org.au 2LD must be:
a) an exact match, abbreviation or acronym of the registrant’s name; or
b) otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant.
FirstPageResults is correct, it is the Registrars who should be upholding the above. In saying that, if you were found/reported in breach of this the domain would be taken off you.

So overall, stay away from it unless you can prove your eligible to have it.

Lately I've been seeing .org.au's drop left, right and centre. Most, if not all, being PD's.

Myself as a member of auDA, for one, will report any .org.au's that I suspect is not Kosher.

All responsible domainers should also do the same.

Congratulations Shaun!!!!

You have won yourself a GOLD STAR!!!

I am curious though... As you are part of a paper shuffling mob. Does this give you any expertise or should you really just buy gobacktonz.org.au?????

ACCC would do more on platforms inflating prices for their own gains.

Ask around all roads lead to Auckland
