Default NZ domain news

I was chasing a nice NZ domain name the other day - Gambling.co.nz

This had expired, and people were trying to get it via NZ drop catchers.

The domain reached just over $1500 on one of the drop catchers. However, they did not catch it!

I had a look at the WhoIs yesterday, and saw that the Registrar is NetRegistry Pty Ltd with the Registrant being Publishing Australia Pty Ltd (joint owners of Netfleet).

So firstly, congratulations - this is great to be able to "snap" a great name in a different country. Kiwis will be furious!

Secondly, does Netfleet have any plans to establish in NZ? (That you can tell us anyway!).

Hi Ned

Yes, excited to say we are in the final stages of development for the release of an .nz snapper platform on Netfleet.

We are looking to go live next week. Will keep you posted!

Thanks
Mark

WOW, so cheap!
Wonder what it would fetch if it was .com.au!

Congratulations! Another string to your bow.

I know that the above name was "snapped" during your testing period (which to me is absolutely fine).

When you launch "NZ Snapper", will Publishing Australia etc be adopting the same policies as they do with
Aussie Snapper? i.e. not competing against other bidders unless there are no bids?

Someone would have asked the question eventually, so I thought I'd get it out there now!

Extra cheap for them!

If it was .com.au; would have to go low 5 figures at least wouldn't it?

And then what if it was .com? Drool .............

Will we be able to backorder names ?

There are a couple I have my eye on dropping down the track.

At first no we won't have a backorder facility, but only the daily snapper auction. We will look to probably provide a backorder facility though.

First steps are to gauge the market tbh

I presumed that would be the case. Thanks for clarifying so quickly Mark.

I re-iterate my congratulations to you guys - this ability to also "drop catch" or "snap" NZ names
is a tremendous achievement. I for one will definitely be a client.

For those that don't know already, the NZ market offers great opportunities. Quite a few members
on this forum own .co.nz names. Yes, it is small, compared to Aussie, and values are a lot less.

But let me tell you, it does not have the restrictions we are faced with here.

1. Anybody from around the world can buy or sell names.
2. No "close or subtantial" regulations.
3. Hand reg or snap a name today; sell it tomorrow! No 6 month rule.
4. When you sell, there is no COR fee!

I'm looking forward to your official announcement. Well done again.
