Default Netregistry Name Spinner Live!

Just thought you may be interested, domains listed on Netfleet are now being presented to people searching for domain names to register at Netregistry.com.au.

The 'name spinner' returns 5 related domain names for sale following an unsucessful availability search. There is also a 'see more' option.

This is just live today so if you want to, please have a play & if you can give any feedback that would be great! Let's hope this really starts to stimulate some sales!

Thanks

David

I would've thought you'd be searching for an exact match as well, not just keywords.

For example if i search for 'cheaphotels.com.au', then that should be one of the 5 results

Great idea and one that I hope goes well.

I had a quick run and thought the results were disappointing:

eg a search for art.com.au gave:

artificialintelligence.com.au
smartsim.com.au
123party.com.au
chartedaccountants.com.au
rockart.com.au

1/5 of the results appear relevant.

This may be a difficult one due to it's shortness and that it appears in lots of words but a search for centralcoast.com.au also returned unrelated results.

I made this comment prior to the launch but again, I'd rather see your best domains rather than budget domains. I can make up comparable budget domains like the ones I'm seeing for a reg fee.

I hope I'm wrong and it helps to generate interest and increase sales numbers. I do wish you guys every success with it.

Thanks for all the feedback. Great to know you guys will always help with some really relevant points.

DMP & Domainlover - great point you make...we are restricting results to domains with target prices - actually prices below $10,000 to reward those who have made the effort to put prices on their names. This also indicates a more serious seller so more likely to end in a result.

I think it also devalues the whole domain aftermarket if they see a suggestion for a mediocre name with a target price of $200,000. We all know there's plenty of domains like that out there.

However you are absolutely right in that we should make an exception to this rule for exact matches - we'll make the change straight away. Thanks!

Troy - yes that has been a problem we've recognised. It's just so hard to tell an algorithm the meaning of a word... how to effectively split a compund word has also been something we've laboured with for many weeks.

I'm not sure there is a really good solution for this esp with small words like 'art'.

However we do have some other ideas up our sleeves to help the matching. We're also working on an algo to help us order the returned domains in terms of quality... and even in terms of competitive target price (relative to value).

As for your comment about budget domains - we're using all domains under $10,000 which is definitely more than just budget names. It's our opinion that if someone is looking to spend $25-$45 to register a domain, we're realistically very unlikely to push them into buying a second choice domain for more than $10K. However as per the comments above, we'll drop that restiction for exact matches.

Thanks again - please keep any comments coming!

Hi Guys

Ok we've made the change now to the Netfleet name spinner. Exact matches will always show up first if they have a target price

Also, just a note to say that the name spinner is also live on http://hostess.com.au, with more registrars coming very soon

Cheers
Mark

One more changed made - it will now return the domain name if it finds an exact match regardless of whether there is a target price. All other suggested domain names however do need target price to appear

Thanks

Sounds like things are going along great David and Mark, how many more registrars are you planning to roll this feature out too, and are they just to the netregistry powered registrars like hostess.com.au?
