Nice post - thanks for the analysis.

As you say it's great to see these primo names being put to good use. Good on the sextoys.com.au buyer too - it's still an official record & a lot of people thought it was big money at the time but when you look at what he's invested into it, you've got to think he'll make a great return in not much time at all.

stay.com.au was bought by a guy who already runs a B&B site. Independent of hotels.com.au I believe but probably just partnering with them for some revenue. Nice guy & I'm sure he'll make that into a special site given his experience.

Encouraging to see this development...

SexToys.com.au - $25,500 ... I think that in 2010 and beyond that $25K will be considered to be cheap for a pure generic AU domain ... prices up to and over $100K will become the norm as time goes by ... there just are no names at reg fee any more ...

The old saying applies to the domains listed above ...

Build it and they will come ...

$25k couldnt even get you a 6 month lease in a shopfront to get you the walk in traffic to compare against the type ins and searches for that domain. Pretty cheap if you ask me.
