Next thing needed is the ability for the registrant to choose what period they want to regiser the domain name for 1, 2, 5, 10 year registrations ( same as .com)

Hopefully auDA will update us all on this one also which they did a survey of

This would definitely lower the cost of write offs - you know the domains you bought when you weren't thinking straight and it takes a couple of weeks to realise your error...

I'd much prefer to pay $10 for those mistakes than $20...
