Default Google acquires daily deals aggregator

Another move by google into the deals sector (after launching Google Offers), they have acquired The Deal Map:

Quote:
Calling itself the world’s largest mobile deals aggregator, The Dealmap culls deals from more than 400 sources and, in turn, provides users with the ability to view deals mapped out across their general vicinity via the company’s mobile applications.

The Dealmap reportedly has two million users, all of whom contribute 85 million monthly visits to its partner networks.

Does anyone else getting the feeling more and more that competing for online market share is becoming less about beating your competitors and more about staying ahead of Google's online domination strategy?

Yes! I reckon we will see more and more of Google's own affiliate links creeping into the top spots for product, and other, types of search.

Could it be that their motto "don't be evil" and their multi-national corporate giant status don't go together that well anymore?

Lots of innovative companies start out with the "don't be evil" philosophy - unfortunately, monopoly, public company and human nature are rarely the formula for "doing no evil" in the long run...
